San Francisco

Over the past week I’ve been thinking about two things a lot…

San Francisco and Film Photography.

Gaby and I went last year for my birthday and we had a great time. We spent all of time there just exploring, eating and making pictures. We did all of the classic tourist activities, eating clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf, seeing the Golden Gate Bridge and The Painted Ladies. For our whole trip I never moved my car, anywhere we wanted to go we walked or took an Uber. We explored the city at night, stopped to take pictures, and really just did whatever we wanted.

For my birthday we ate at a little seafood spot and I had some of the best pasta I’ve ever had.

A full trip with no plan, just doing whatever came to mind, and sometimes nothing at all., and that’s exactly what I wanted. Just time to do nothing, walk around a city and take pictures.

That trip also holds a special place in my heart because it was my first trip with Gaby, we had just finished unpacking in our first apartment together, then got in my car and drove to SF.

I’ll always love that trip.

My print for this week is from that trip, a small little bar stuck in a fork in the road shot on film. I snapped this photo on our way back from my birthday dinner as we went into a candy store to grab some birthday treats. We considered grabbing a drink here but never made it. I think I like that we never made it, the fantasy of a sitcom style bar laying behind the doors makes it even better. The golden hour sun captured on film bathing the front of the building encapsulates the whole trip for me. The ability to be at this random fork in the road and line up this composition due to no plan and simply just enjoying the city, and enjoying the world around us. That is what our mini vacation was all about.

Thanks for reading,

Doug
